Week Zero Reflections

Some thoughts from Aubrey’s Diary on Week Zero in Okasie (Brits):

The Brits Team

Sun – Arrival
06 June 2010
09:17 PM

The experience in Oukasi has been totally amazing thus far travelling to Brits was interesting as per usual with any other trip but we did eventually got there and Nathan shared a Word of God with the congregation on loving one another. During the service one lady brought us a glass of water and later one lady knelt down in front of Marcel and I and wiped our shoes( That reminded me of the story of Jesus’ washing His disciples feet) A really humbling experience indeed! We chilled out for the rest of the day and attended the evening service and went home to sleep my very comfy bed! yay

Monday -Day one
07 June 2010
10:21 PM

So on Monday morning, one of those uncertain days not knowing what to expect in terms of how many kids would pitch etc. I rounded up some of the volunteers to go to schools and hand out pamphlets that the pastor had prepared for the community and the schools so we did that in the morning and then the soccer clinic in the afternoon, we ended up at the end of the day with approx. 370 kids and that was pretty crazy for the first day but overall it was a good day!

Tuesday and Wednesday
09 June 2010
08:33 PM

Tues and Wednesday we really all about improv and we had to call shots on the move, we had about 270 – 300 kids and about the same as today, as chaotic as it was we managed to pull the volunteers in to help manage the kids. The church here in Oukasi has really responded well and are very excited and really want to be part of what’s happening in their community. That is encouraging for the us out here and I think the teams that are coming out to Oukasi will enjoy their stay out here. I had three African burgers today, oh wow! Nathan had his first Spatlo and he was pretty impressed to say the least. We having a blast thus far and all is well, the hospitality is still superb.

Pre-visits (Marcel Labuschagne)

Early on this year, we spent some time in rural areas in preparation for the trailer ministry, creating relationships with the local churches in order to get them excited for the ministry coming in the near future.

Each of these weekends became an amazing experience and an opportunity to grow and learn from the community in which we found ourselves. One such experience was in Hammanskraal, hearing from the children how much the short time we had with them had such a great effect on them. Although for us it may have seemed like just another weekend, for the children it was a moment that will stay with them forever.

I thank God for how he has made this possible and how he has been able to use us in this way.

I know that the trailer ministry will have the same effect if we go with God.  It will be a week that the community will not soon forget and this impact is what I am looking forward to the most. God is going to do great things during the World Cup. This impact will stay in the hearts of those affected forever.

The impact of trailer ministry (Ephraim Ralekwa)

Since the programme started this year January, I have seen God touch the lives of people.  In Venda, 61 children give their lives to Jesus.

Our target as a church was to reach 50 churches but to my surprise God has already touched the hearts of more than 50 Pastors. One of the amazing things is that through this ministry God has touched individuals, families and the wider community.

On 31 May God touched all the counselors of Mamelodi. One thing I can say about this programme is that I am convinced that this Trailer ministry programme is of God using people to serve in it. So you better be part of it. God Bless you.
